The Opportunity Network is actively tracking resources and tools in light of the ongoing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak. Our primary concern is the health and well-being of our community. Aside from the health concern, we want to inform and provide resources to best equip our community throughout this crisis.

If you don’t mind waiting on hold on the phone, you can also schedule an appointment for certain locations via the official NYC line at 877-VAX-4NYC (877-829-4692).

If you prefer to go in-person, call or visit a local pharmacy in your neighborhood to inquire about their vaccination appointment availability.

  • Read One Medical’s ‘What You Should Know About Coronavirus’ for symptoms, plans of action and recommendations. For medical emergencies, call 911 and alert them you may be showing Coronavirus symptoms, so they can come prepared.

Free/Reduced Price Internet Access & Phone Service

  • Federal Communications Commission Emergency Broadband Benefit
    • Eligible households are entitled to discounts for local broadband providers and tech equipment
  • 60 Days of Free Broadband Service From Comcast for Low-Income Communities at www.internetessentials.com.:
    • Sign up for 60 days of no-cost service, with the opportunity to sign up after for $9.95 per month or cancel service at no cost.
    • You may qualify if you are eligible for public assistance programs such as the National School Lunch Program, Housing Assistance, Medicaid, SNAP, SSI, and others.
    • Support is available in Spanish and ASL as well as other languages.
    • People can sign up by phone at 1-855-846-8376 for English and 1-855-765-6995 for Spanish.
  • 60 Days of Free Broadband Service for New K-12 and College Students From Charter:
    • Free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who do not already have a Spectrum broadband subscription at any service level up to 100 Mbps.
    • To enroll, call (844) 310-1198. Spectrum will provide a free, self installation kit to each household.
    • To enroll call 1-844-488-8395.
    • For eligible low-income households (National School Lunch Program, Community Eligibility Provision, or Supplemental Security Income (for applicants 65+), Charter continues to offer Spectrum Internet Assist, a low-cost broadband program delivering speeds of 30 Mbps.

 


 

  • Xfinity is offering free Wi-Fi/Hotspot access when you download their free app for subscribers of the internet service.
  • In response to the public health crisis, through 6/30/21, AT&T is temporarily:
    • Expanding Access from AT&T eligibility based on income as well as households participating in National School Lunch and Head Start Programs

    • Waiving home internet data overage fees. (Does not apply to DSL)
  • Verizon is offering discounted service plans for low-income households for wireless service and for cable/internet in areas that support Fios.

Academic & Work From Home Resources

  • EduMate NYC
    • Free virtual tutoring to NYC public school students. Tutoring includes all classic school subjects and the arts, preparation for standardized tests, and guidance on the college application and essay-writing process.
  • Remote Learning Device Rental
    • The New York Department of Education (DOE) is lending internet-enabled iPads to support remote learning for students. If you would like to request a device for a NYC student in your family, please fill out the Request form. The DOE will use the contact information you provide to get in touch with you to discuss when and where you can pick up a device. Priority will be given to students most in need, and all devices are granted on a temporary basis and will need to be returned.
    • There is a limit of one device per student
    • Families with multiple students will need to fill out a separate form for each device needed
    • The device should be used only to access remote learning activities
    • The device is being loaned for the student’s use during remote learning
    • The device is the property of the NYCDOE and contains a tracking device so that the device can be located.
    • The device must be returned when on-site learning resumes, unless otherwise instructed by the NYCDOE
  • Cisco is offering the free version of its Webex service with no time restrictions. In addition, it will allow up to 100 meeting participants and has added toll-free dial-in features with a  90-day license for businesses that are not already customers. If you created your free Webex account before June 1, 2020, then you can host meetings with an unlimited duration until July 1, 2020. As of July 1, 2020, everyone with a free Webex account can schedule meetings that last up to 50 minutes.
  • Signal.org and Doxy.me (tools that are HIPAA compliant and maintain confidentiality when communicating with young people)
  • Education Companies Offering Free Subscriptions
  • COVID-19 Curriculum Guide (created by Harvard Medical students including diagnosis, treatment, prevention, epidemiological principles, and how to communicate your newfound understanding of COVID-19 to others)
  • NYPL Free One-On-One Tutors: Get free online homework help from one-on-one tutors. For older students, study materials and practice tests for PSAT, SAT, ACT, AP, and GED exams, and state-standardized tests.
