Carl Jackman

As Assistant Director of Wellness Support, Carl works to ensure OppNet Fellows are best supported socially, physically, and emotionally to reach their goals. Before OppNet, Carl worked locally and around the world leading positive youth development programming in DOE public schools, cultural institutions, and national and international organizations. Carl brings a critical social work lens to his approach with youth, heavily incorporating the intersectionality of race, gender, social class, and orientation as experienced by young people. Carl enjoys volunteering in his free time as a mentor in DYCD’s YMI program, traveling as a chaperone with the YMCA’s Global Teens Program, and serving as a board member for Universal Temple of the Arts, a nonprofit arts organization in Staten Island. Carl graduated magna cum laude from CUNY’s College of Staten Island with a B.S. in Social Work, and also holds a M.S.W., with a clinical concentration, from Fordham University’s Graduate School of Social Service.
